GOD BLESS AMERICA
As we witness the sun of favor rapidly setting on our once great nation, it puts a brand new ring to the invocation “God Bless America.” This wonderful patriotic song was composed by a Russian born man named Irving Berlin in 1918 and revised by him in 1938. We have all sang this song countless times through the years. None can deny that our existence & advancement has come by a God who has shed his grace on the U.S. Through wars, conflicts, & national disasters He has always brought us through to victory. We saluted & defended our flag in times of peril.
However like other great nations before us, we have allowed greatness to become our downfall. We have taken his grace for granted & felt like we could live any way we wanted to & treat God with disregard & certainly with disrespect. We became so self-sufficient & relied upon our wisdom and wealth to sustain us.
God has and God does bless America even now as we have blasphemed him by living wicked lives & passing laws that totally disregard his holy word, the Bible. As their cheers for evil and the thirst for blood in our streets, while diluted sermons from backslidden preachers without the courage or convictions to tell the people that judgment is destine to come upon those who forsake righteousness.
In summary, when I look at our nation today that loves evil more than good, saying God Bless America has a new emphasis with a true depth of desperation. The call has now become a cry God Bless America. Later will be too late it must happen now.
As we join our families & friends this 4th of July to celebrate our independence let us realize that once again we have found ourselves, not under the bondage of Britain but the forces of evil. Only God can help & I believe he would if only we would really pray “God Bless America”. 2Chron 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

THOU ART THERE
Ps 139:7-12 (7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. 12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. (KJV)
Whether David pinned this Psalm or another author wrote it about him, it is a chapter filled with words of strength & hope that we find in other chapters of Psalms. The scriptures give us full account of the life of this great man referred to as the man “after God’s own heart”. As in the life of all those who follow God there were highs and lows, good times and bad times, and both victories and failures, yet he continued in the faith.
As Christians we all seek the answers & solutions to life’s problems so we can maneuver through each episode and hopefully keep the victory. We question within ourselves concerning those who we feel have really attained and achieved greatness. Do they pray & fast more than others, do they give more than others, does God favor some people more than others? I believe the key to David’s success is found in the text “thou art there”. As a young lad in the fields at night keeping his father’s sheep surrounded by predators “thou art there”. When the growling wolf and bear approached the herd, God was there. When he met the challenge of Goliath, God was there. As a fugitive fleeing for his life God was there. In the cold & damp caves of seclusion, God was in that cave with him.
In summary it is quite evident that the key to our success is no difference, God is with us always. Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
As long as God is with us we are assured the victory. Is it any wonder he introduced himself as Emmanuel. Matt 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. And lastly Rom 8:31 If God be for us, who can be against us?
I was listening to a local radio talk show recently that was promoting the efforts of the state and federal sponsored rehab program. It has long been understood that these programs offer little to no help to the addicted. Alcoholics Anonyms and a host of other well-known rehab centers are multimillion dollar businesses that are advertised as “not for profit”. The astounding reality is that the failure rate is so high. In my studies over the years it has shown the success rate to be between 1-5%. Here is an example: The results were in absolute contrast to the public perception of AA: “After just one month in the Fellowship [meaning AA,] 81% of the new members had already dropped out. After three months, 90% have left, and a full 95% have disappeared inside one year!” (Kolenda, 2003, Golden Text Publishing Company). These results are anything but impressive. I am certainly happy for those that it did help but if a practicing physician lost 95% or more of their patients I think they would shut them down.
Going back to the radio talk show, a lady testified how successful the program was because she had attended the program four times and is presently enrolled again. Then I heard her utter what I feel is the big problem. She referred to her addiction as a disease. She had been taught to think in these terms. See, if it’s a disease then it isn’t your fault so you shouldn’t feel badly about it. Everybody is a victim today it seems. Many will disagree with my next statement but I know I’m right from my own experience and that of many others. Addictions aren’t a disease they are results from bad choices that have allowed these sins to control and often ruin our lives. We don’t help the problem by calling it something other than what it is, sin.
I have witnessed the conversion of countless men & women throughout the years that were bound or addicted by everything imaginable. It wasn’t through a 10 or 12 step program but just 1 giant step to Jesus Christ. Ladies & gentlemen this is where the true help comes from.
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
I have witnessed God transform lives as one preacher said “from the gutter most to the uttermost.” If sin and addictions are diseases then the blood of Jesus is the real and lasting prescription for it.
1 Cor 6:8-11 (8 Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren. 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind.10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. KJV
When you truly get born again the chains of sin will be broken. We are promised by the infallible Word of God that we will become a new person.
2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Apostle Peter was the man that Jesus gave the keys to the Kingdom,
Matt 16:18-19 (18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Peter was certainly not the first Pope since the Catholic Church didn’t officially begin until 325AD, but he was God’s spokesman on the Day of Pentecost when he delivered these keys to a lost world that needed a Savior.
Acts 2:37-39 (37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
So if you’re bound and want to be free, lost and want to be found, a looser and want to be a winner, and above all if you want to live in peace that passes all understanding and spend eternity with God then you must obey his Word. Don’t search for the easy paths of man-made doctrines and lifeless religions when Jesus offers each of us a personal relationship with Him. Are you sick or just need to get saved?
