DELIVERED AT EASTER
Acts 12:3-4 (1-11) 3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread. 4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
Peter was cast into prison for preaching the Apostolic message of the one true God whose name was Jesus the Christ. He preached that a man must be born again of the water and of the Spirit to enter the Kingdom of God John 3:3-5. Such teachings of the Apostles deeply stirred and convicted both the Jewish hierarchy as well as the Roman dictators of the day. The same technique used to have Christ crucified was still being used by the High Priest and the Jewish leaders.
It is important to notice that the ones most offended by truth were the Jews. Here once again we find the strength of religion influencing the judgements of politics. It worked to have Jesus executed and countless followers plus the Bishop James the leader of the church of Jerusalem had just been executed by the sword to just please the Jews. They sought the pleasure of the Jews to be more expedient than obeying truth. Unfortunately, not much has changed when political leaders will say or do nearly anything for a vote.
Easter had gotten in their way of Peter’s speedy execution so he was placed into maximum security with 16 guards assuring no escape. To the surprise and dismay of the jailors and the Jews, when they went to the prison to lead Peter to his public execution, he was gone. The church prayed and God sent his angel to miraculously deliver the man of God. He was delivered on Easter!
I also must give God praise for the deliverance he sent into my life on Easter, April 14th 1974. I was incarcerated by sin and Satan wasn’t planning to let me go. The demons of hell, the weakness of my own flesh and the ungodly allurements of this world was driving me to my eternal judgement of hell fire.
However, on that Easter Sunday I was invited to church as a family tradition of a friend, and that day I received my deliverance and pardon from sin. That morning service was the beginning of a lifetime of service to the one who delivered me.
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead on Easter and delivered Peter on Easter can surely bring freedom into your heart and life. He did it for me and millions of others and I know he will do it for you. This is what Easter is really about. It’s not about rabbits and eggs it’s about the love and power of God that is able to save you from what seems to be impossible situations and allow you to live a resurrected life free from sin. This Easter let God break the chains for you as he opens the prison doors and directs you into a new life. Christ has risen and you can be also. God bless!
